Adventureland: This movie was a roller coaster of emotion and laughter (sorry, I couldn't resist). I was surprised that it wasn't all laughs and thoroughly enjoyed this. Think 'Garden State' meets 'Super Bad'. I had a bootleg copy and will strongly consider seeing it again. I give it 4 Bill Hader's mustaches out of 5.

Terminator Salvation: Overall, I like the movie. Christian Bale kills at anything he does (yes, American Psycho does count) and plays a strong John Connor. Plenty of Skynet love in this and some pretty cool 'Us vs. Them' fight scenes. Starting to get confused though with all the jumping back in time with all the different movies they've made over the years. When is enough going to be enough? Regardless, they left room for more to come (and there will be). I give it 3 Arnolds out of 5.

Crank 2: I love Jason Statham. The dude is a hoss any way you look at it. Why does he keep making these crappy movies? I could spend the next week trying to explain what happened in the movie but that would involve me watching it again 12 more times to understand myself. I'll pass. I give it 1 and 1/2 meth labs out of 5 (and only b/c he does Amy Smart on a horse race track).

Movie Review: REDBELT

I've always said -- the most important theme I look for in for movies is originality. There is nothing worse than seeing a movie with the same played out twists, turns, and plot that you've seen a million times before. The one thing that REDBELT has going for it is originality.

It takes some time but eventually the movie incorporates some MMA themes and has a newer martial arts twist to it. Cool cool - I'm feeling ya so far.

Then BAM! Round house kick to the viewers head and its over -- just when it was starting to get good!

Unfortunately, REDBELT suffers from plenty of other downfalls. At times it can be a little too ancient Jiu Jitsu preachy. It's been a long time since people have embraced a martial arts movie (no I'm not talking about Karate Kid -- ok, maybe I am.) and I don't know if people can be ever driven back to excitement from this genre.

Crouching Tiger was the last serious time America went gah gah over martial arts. Even then, people were blown away from the fight scenes, something REDBELT is missing a lot of.

The movie always felt like it was heading in opposite directions at various times. First were talking philiosphy then were talking about a suspended cop then a lawsuit. In addition, the movie has a very bizzare supporting cast. Specifcially, Tim 'The Tool Man' Taylor in a guest cameo role. (I kept waiting for Wilson to appear in a fight scene -- his face hidden behind a gong or something).

I'm not saying its an awful movie, but it doesn't necessarily have to be at the top of your rental queue. I could also understand if it's not at the top of your queue b/c 'Dawson's Creek' Season 5 is.

REDBELT gets to 2 karate chops to the face out of 5.

A classic Jay Reid story...

Last September I went with the Falcons to their pre-season game in Baltimore. The Falcons have an agreement with a local off site parking spot (which will remain nameless pending any future lawsuits) where all the players and administration can park at the airport. It turns out its the same off site parking place I use all the time, so much so, I have a card and an account that I use when I park (I use the card to get in and out of the lot).

I found out about all the details with parking earlier in the week but didnt really understand the extent how the whole procedure worked. I swiped my card, parked my car and went about my business.

Fast forward 36 hours: The plane arrives back in Atlanta at 3 in the morning, we bus over to the parking lot and head out after a great 'W' over the Ravens. What I didn't understand was why people were just leaving the parking place with out paying. At the same time I didn't care. I thought it was awesome we weren't being charged. I sped out and didn't look back. Suckerrrsss!

Fast forward again another 2 months: For whatever reason I didn't do a lot flying for that month and half of work. When I did finally fly in the middle of October, I went to my normal off site parking spot. Only this time, I was in for a bit of a surprise. When I pulled up to the spot and used my card, it read on the lcd screen 'CAR ALREADY PARKED IN LOT'. I then realized the error in my ways from the fateful night.

Instead of using my card, I took a ticket and parked. I could only imagine how much damage I've done. Went on my trip, had a blast in JAX, came home, and knew I had to face the music.

I went up to management and explained my situation / predicament/ nightmare. The manager had a look on his face that read 'BULLSHIT' but nevertheless scanned the card. My damage -- a cool $975.00 smackers. Here's the math for ya -- 60 plus days of parking at a measley $15 a day for parking at the airport. (Coupled with lousy service, incompetent workers, and delays, no wonder air travel blows -- another rant).

I told him I would have no reason to lie but that he could check the dates and talk to the Falcons to verify this. He finally cleared the card out but not before I asked if I could get the credit for parking those days (to earn free parking days). Listen, you got to go for it on things like that -- its what makes America great. Needless to say, he didn't appreciate my attempt and asked me leave.

Moral of the story:

GO FALCONS!

Minus the blizzard (and when I say blizzard I mean 2 inches that dusted metro Atlanta) and the hangover from previous nights activites, Ben and I managed to go to the game today.

You would think Virginia Tech's overtime last second win over UVA would turn the corner and inspire the team down the stretch. Actually, not the case at all. Overall, a pretty ugly affair. VT played miserable and made an average GT team look like a powerhouse. Chalk it up to VT being young but they could have won this game...

The one item that made the game worthwhile was Deron Washington's filthy dunk over Gani Lawal. The video quality isn't the best...but...smile Mr. Gani Lawal! You got posterized my friend...

Now I am a mild mannered fan b/c I CANNOT STAND the rabid fan who thinks he knows more than the head coach does & he can officiate better than the zebras on the floor (like this guy below). Take a hard look at yourself sir and I hope to god you don't coach childrens sports...

Regardless of my mild manner behavior -- after watching Deron make that dunk, I lost my cool (so much so that a witty GT fan told me to 'sit down'). I went a little crazy and it was even humorous how quiet Alexander Memorial got. Georgia Tech and VT fans alike they just witnessed something special...

10 great places to watch college basketball...

Now I'm not a huge fan of USA Today. Some call it the 'children's book' of newspapers for its easy to read and elementary articles. I tend to agree and furthermore I have a problem with them not having a 'comics' section. If you are going to be something half ass don't bother -- shoot for the stars I say and at least get 'The Boondocks' put in.

I digress -- maybe another posting...

Anyhow, John Feinsten -- my favorite author and someone who truly knows sports -- recently posted a top 10 list of the best places to watch college basketball.

The one entry that caught my attention on this list was Cassell Coliesum (home to yourrrrr Virginia Tech Hokies).

Cassell was always a fun place to watch games and people who really know basketball from back in the day, know it had a strong reputation in the late 70's, 80's and 90's as awesome atmosphere / a dangerous place to play for opposing teams. Since the addition of VT to the ACC, it has been a hot bed of basketball activity. Sell outs, upsets, and great competition has made Cassell that much better.

With that being said check out JF's top 10 lis t. And if you still don't believe the hype watch the clip. The 'Enter Sandman Bounce' is a little tried and true at this point but its still pretty awesome to watch students and alumn rock the arena...

...And for those you at home keeping score -- I've been to a game at Pauley Pavilion, cut across the floor at Rose Hill Gym (when no one was around walking to the football offices) scuffing it w/ my black sole shoes, and given J.J. Reddick the bird at Cameron Indoor.

Not to mention filming every home game for 4 seasons of VT basketball (and stopping the ball w/ my groin several times while on the floor)...

For whatever, 2 student volunteers felt the need to make Chip a little more 'urban'. Now this image is kinda like a police sketch of what Chip looked like at the time. Granted I don't think he or any mascot would ever walk around with a gun, but according to this article -- the depiction isn't too far from the truth.

Apparently, the icing on the proverbial cake was putting a 'tear drop' on Chip. The 'tear drop' is a representation in many gangs that you have killed someone. To me, I see it in a totally different light. What if it was a really a tear drop, b/c Colorado basketball sucks and Chip is upset about another crappy season -- did anyone think of that...?!?!

The funny thing, Chip was in appearance for 'kids' night. I'd like see the Oregon Duck take on Chip in a mascot royal rumble -- see who would win that fight! My money is on Chip and his homeboys...

Lawyer wants to depose Michael Vick in suit against brother

Richmond, Va. — A teenager who claims in a multimillion-dollar lawsuit that she had an almost two-year sexual relationship with former Miami Dolphins player Marcus Vick is hoping Vick's imprisoned brother Michael Vick will corroborate her claims.

In papers filed in Carroll County Circuit Court this week, the 18-year-old asked a judge to compel the former Atlanta Falcons quarterback to give a sworn statement about what he knows about the alleged relationship.

Michael Vick is serving a 23-month sentence on a federal dogfighting conviction.

The woman, who was 17 when she filed the lawsuit against Marcus Vick last year, claims in the suit that she was a 15-year-old honor student at Christiansburg High School when she first had sex with a then 19-year-old Marcus Vick in January 2004 while he was a quarterback at Virginia Tech.

Marcus Vick has denied a relationship with the woman.

The woman wants to know if Michael Vick knows anything about the alleged relationship, said Steven Smith, one of the lawyers representing the woman in the $6.3 million lawsuit.

"If Marcus has told Michael certain information about this case or has discussed it with him, it would certainly be relevant," Smith said.

A hearing on the request is scheduled for Jan. 23 in Carroll Circuit Court.

An after-hours message left Friday with Marcus Vick's attorney, Lawrence Woodward Jr., was not immediately returned. He has declined previously to discuss the case with the media.

Marcus Vick and two of his former teammates at Tech were convicted in 2004 of three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor for giving three underage girls liquor and encouraging them to strip. In the lawsuit, the girl identifies herself as the one who had sex with Vick on that night in January 2004 that led to his arrest and conviction.

Marcus Vick was cut by the Miami Dolphins last year.

I haven't seen a lot of college hoops this year but this story caught my attention about the center for UNC-Asheville Bulldogs.

Meet Kenny George. Kenny is 7-7 and weighs 360. When you see someone this large it certainly makes you scratch your head how the body can get that large. Not sure how a guy like this makes it out to Asheville, NC but I was thinking -- its rare to see a truly big man make it on a marquee college basketball team. Why is that...?!!?

It happened again...

It's happened so many times now, I don't know why I am even surprised or even posting on 'Quad R' about this topic...

VT football lost another big game. The list of losses on the big stage is long and plenty & at this point its straight embarrassing...

If you follow college football, you are well aware that VT was heavily favored to beat what was thought to be a OK at best Kansas Jayhawk team.

There was plenty of trash talking that VT was going to destroy this over hyped Jayhawk team. KU was the butt numerous college football jokes making their soft schedule a laughing matter. Message board warriors questioned how this team from Lawrence, Kansas managed to get into one of college footballs biggest stages.

All this talk officially came full circle approximately at midnight tonight. Somehow - someway, VT found away to make costly errors and fell apart giving making KU the 2008 Orange Bowl champions. I thought Kansas played well, but this was VT's game. They could have and yes, should have beaten Kansas.

Shout out to JC who made me laugh when he texted me after the game about Mark Magino (for those who don't know he is the 400+ pound head coach of the Jayhawks) -- ' I was hoping that instead of dumping gatorade on Mangino, they'd dump a cooler of gravy.'

1)You ever notice the arrow that is embedded into the FedEx logo?

Well...now you see it and my guess is you will always think about it when you see a FedEx truck driving down the street.

2) If you have purchased a PDA phone or pay attention to technology you hear the term 'QWERTY' keyboard a lot. People wonder what is 'QWERTY'and where did they get the goofy word from. Well....

Maybe you can't see it well but if you look on your keyboard starting with the letter 'Q' -- QWERTY is spelled out.

I was first introduced to the world of Ugg's my latter years at Virginia Tech. I noticed every sorority girl under the sun had them this Australian foot holders. For whatever reason, Friday was the international day for rockin' Ugg's. My guess -- too hungover to put on shoes like the rest of the world.

For the years after that, I have had my opinion of these boots/slippers/rich man's moccasins made up (no respect for Ugg and their owners) and until recently I have judged everyone who has worn them.

Then I took a trip to Idaho and a plethora of the male population was wearing the male version (affectionately named the Mugg)...!

What's going on here? Has the UGG boot survived the fad craze and wiggled its way into to mainstream society? Are they really the comfortable? Can I wear them to a sales presentation? Do they make a men's 13? What are the Ugg social norm's?

I could use some advice. Somehow this post turned into a 'Dear Abby' letter...

I have a secret to tell all about VT football. The reason I don't talk shit about football, especially VT football, is that VT never wins the big game when favored (see ACC Championship 2005, LSU, Sugar Bowl 2004, etc.).

Not going to lie but I didn't think VT was going to win the ACC especially with the stretch of games we had this year (FSU, Miami, and UVA).

All I am saying is that this is funny -- I don't agree with some of the shots this guy takes.

VT wins, yay! VT loses -- oh well, there is always ummm...outdoor track (did I just say that?)...

R.I.P. PIMP C

Pimp C, 1/2 of the internationally recognized rap group, UGK has passed away today. Another rapper gone. No details yet on what led to his death, but knowing the legacy of rap's mysterious deaths, it probably will never get solved.

I wasn't the biggest fan of UGK's work but I know enough to know that his impact was huge in the industry. The ground work laid by UGK for the 3rd Coast (Houston), was enough for rappers like Mike Jones, Chamillionare, and Paul Wall to make it to where they are today b/c of the work of UGK.

XM Radio -- 66 Raw did a really good job playing UGK and Pimp C solo projects all day. There was a lot of stuff I had never heard -- kudos to 66...

There was a 'gentleman' selling the sunday edition of the Atlanta Journal Constitution on the corner of 14th and Peachtree today. B/c of all the craziness that ensued in yesterday's football games and I was heading to get a bagel for breakfast, I decided to get a copy of the paper.

The first sign of a problem to come was that the guy selling the paper did not look like an upright citizen. The second problem was that the paper was $1. Everyone knows the Sunday paper is a small fortune to purchase.

When I opened the paper, there was EVERYTHING but what I wanted to read -- NO SPORTS SECTION!

- There was no singing when my paper was given to me...

For about two months Frank Gumina has driven a 1974 Volkswagen Thing around with a Georgia tag that reads HA8 JWZ.Gumina saw nothing in the sequence of letters and the numeral 8 except a sequence of letters and the numeral eight. Others did.

"I would be at a grocery store or the Wal-Mart and people would say 'Hate Jews?' or 'Jew Hater?' and I had no idea what they were talking about," Gumina said Friday.

"You know how people just say things that don't make any sense."

Finally, a couple of weeks ago, a mechanic working on Gumina's car sounded out the letters and the numeral on his tag."I got it then," said Gumina. "Hate Jews. I realized I had a problem."

Gumina said he made a few calls and ended up talking with the Atlanta office of the Anti-Defamation League and the Georgia Department of Revenue, which handles license plates in the state. The state has a database of about 8,500 tag number letter sequences that it blocks from being made into license plates, said Department of Revenue Spokesman Charles Willey.

The state on Friday said it will now prohibit auto tags that begin with HA8 or H8 to prevent any accidental or intentional messages of hate. Tags on the blocked list included, for instance, "MAFIA," "AZZ KICKER," and "KKK." The system also blocks any tag that reads as any combination of words that can be read as curse words or racial slurs, or anything that starts with the word 'EAT'," said Willey.

Gumina received his tag by happenstance. The sequence was generated by a computer. It would have been blocked if he had requested it as a prestige or vanity tag, which is an auto tag with specially requested letter and number sequences.

"What happened was he ordered it for his car as a hobby or antique license plate," said Willey. "And hobby tags always begin with HA."But only one of the 8,468,506 vehicle tags now in circulation in Georgia would come up with that sequence HA8 JWZ .

Bill Nigut, Southeast Regional Director of the Anti-Defamation League — which intervened to help Gumina — called the revenue department decision a "sweet outcome."

But, as of Friday afternoon, Gumina said he still has the tag HA8 JWZ on his old Volkswagen and he hasn't driven it in two weeks for fear of continuing to spread a message of hate. He said he can get a new tag for $7, but the state hasn't assured him yet they they'll take the old HA8 JWZ off the road for good.

"I'm going to leave my car parked in the driveway until they tell me they'll give me a new tag and not give the old one to someone else," he said, sounding a bit weary with the whole matter.

"I want that tag eliminated."

So I caught a sneak preview of the movie and I must say its pretty damn good. I am not revealing my sources or anything like that, but there is this thing called the 'internet' (you may have heard of it) that tends to have a lot of pirated material on it. Check it out...

Anyhow, after watching the preview this summer I thought this movie was going to be amazing. I mean it was good, but the preview was just knock your socks off ridiculous....

Has Denzel ever done a really bad movie? The answer is no, however, his performance in 'Training Day' and 'Man on Fire' top his role as Frank Lucas in 'American Gangster' hands down. Not that I was asking for a 'King Kong ain't got shit on me!' moment, but I thought could have done something more to make him more ruthless / crazy.

There is def. HUGE rap connection in the movie. Jay-Z produced the soundtrack and its essentially his album. I gave that a quick listen and wasn't too blown away with it (Jay hasn't had a winner in a while). Also there are a bunch of familiar faces in the movie -- GZA, Common, TI, Anthony Hamilton among others...

If you still believe in paying $10+ for a movie these days, I say go see it. It is certainly better than anything else that is out right now...

Setting: Virginia Tech -- Blacksburg, VA

Event: AEPi's 5th Annual Kiddish Kup -- Go Kart Racing

About the Event: AEPi's annual philanthropy event. All proceeds go to Chai Lifeline. The term Kiddish Kup, is a pretty funny pun for those who aren't members of the tribe.

Because the event was close to Halloween, several people decided to attend the charity event dressed for the occasion. This crew rolled up and decided to come as all the characters from 'Mario Kart'.

Kudos to this fun bunch for out doing themselves with these costumes. Pictured from left to right is Bowser, Wario, Peach/Princess, DK, Mario, Yoshi, Luigi, and the Ghost. I give lots of credit to these guys. They all had additional accessories: Bowser had a shell w/ spikes on it, DK was carrying bananas, and Peach was looking sexy as hell (inappropriate?)...

The reason I love this so, is that Mario Kart may be the best video game ever made. I'm not a huge video game guy, but this one is tried and true and so much fun.

Just an FYI though -- AEPi is a Jewish fraternity, we don't deal well with people wearing white sheets. It worked out well b/c he ended up being of Asian decent and that works for me...

I also get that same 'Holy Shit -- here it comes!' look after a night of drinking Jagerbombs and eating late night Taco Bell (4th meal!). Matt Ryan gets this after beating a top rated defense in the last 2 minutes of a game. I guess we are just two different people...

I love the trainer -- way to step and provide top notch medical support. Nothing a little pat on the back to help with those irritable stomach issues. My guess is that his Reebok's are covered in Gatorade and he is now forever immortalized as being 'the kid that Matt Ryan yacked on'. It's better than being the coach from Kentucky who had a meltdown after the Louisville game -- I guess...

What's really funny is that after the loss, half of the 'Hokie Nation' did the exact same thing -- tossed their cookies. Only difference was that it was out of disgust and anger. Stay classy ESPN for showing this several times at the end of the game...

This girl sitting next to me on a plane had a tattoo of a pirate ship on her hand, so I asked her what that was about. She said she had gotten drunk while watching 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. She said it was a constant lesson not to do dumb things while drunk...

In case you didn't know -- there is a pretty big game Thursday night in Blacksburg -- #2 Boston College vs #8 Virginia Tech. It could the 'game' this year for the ACC.

If there was ever a sign from upstairs that VT has an edge, it's this.

At first, I thought this was a post from 'The Onion', but this is the real deal. This is the kind of information you can't get from Vegas and this could put you over the edge if you are a gambling man. You got this sign AND not to mention how bad VT got beat last year in Chesnut Hill. VT is out for vengeance...

Not going to lie, I don't read too much. In this crazy digital age it is rare that I sit down and actually finish a whole book. However, based on a good friends recommendation, I was forced to go out and buy this book immeaditely.

Let's just say I am glad I did....

Not to give much away, but Warren St. John spends the year traveling through the deep south to Alabama football games in a RV. The book is MUCH more about the religion of Alabama football and the sect that is the loyal RV faithful.

Don't discredit it b/c its Alabama football. Any loyal enthusiast can apply their school to the same things the author goes through. There are a lot of things to pick up from this book besides crazy ass characters & experiences. Pick it up and your bound to find something out new & interesting about your inner fan...

One month from today I will be turning 25. You heard it here first. Mark it down on your daily planner, your Blackberry, Outlook -whatever. November 16th is THE day.

On the drive home from Athens today, the thought that I am starting to get old seeped into my mind. It had crossed my mind several times before now, but the 1 month mark really has opened my eyes. Now I have discussed this topic with several friends and I thank them for their contributions (b/c they are old too), but I thought I need to share this to the world.

'So why not post it on the blog' was my thought. Here is my top 6 reasons 'you know you are getting old.'

4. You remember the first CD purchased. Yes, I said CD's and not tapes. Tapes don't count and are really pathetic. Think about it, no good music EVER came out on tapes (the tail end of disco and hair bands -- no thanks). Hold on, I need to rewind my tape to hear the first song -- ridiculous. Anyhow, I can't count on my left hand the CD's I have purchased in the last 5 years.

By the way, Red Hot Chili Peppers -- Blood Sugar Sex Magic from Turtles Music was my first CD.

3. You remember when gas was less than $1 a gallon. There used to be a Quiktrip in Sandy Springs that was .69 cents. I blame OPEC but I am not sure what that means, but I really blame them HARD. OPEC to me is a term that you drop to save your ass when smarter minds are talking about the oil crisis. Don't say anything else cause you will blow it if you try and BS too much. That tip is for free, the next one will cost you...

2. You find your self saying, 'Man, we really need some rain!' Who says that...?!?! Me that is who! I don't even have a lawn, a mower or any of those things, but the fact that we are in a drought and I haven't seen a rain drop in weeks seriously concerns me. REALLY has done an outstanding job on their commercials this year. They are def. the new SportsCenter commercials (which are really down). The one thing I picked up right away was the choice in music they have selected. In the video below, when the alarm clock goes off, 'Gang Starr's - Just to Get a Rep' plays.

If you go to College Gameday's website and click on 'How Well Do You Know College Gameday?' link and then go to the commercial that says 'The Guys Rest Their Voice on Gameday'. The song that Corso listens to is also 'Gang Starr's - Just to Get a Rep'...!

Gameday, what gives on recycling content? Is someone on set just a really big fan of that song?

I am not complaining really, I just would have chosen better Gang Starr songs thats all...
